When I do work like this, I wear a mechanic’s jumpsuit–end of problem. Trousers became “de rigueur” men’s wear because it is difficult to ride and fight in a cavalry unit while wearing a toga. But our hips are too narrow to really hold up a waistband; clothing that makes the most sense for us hangs from our shoulders. Suspenders and bib overalls are “out,” these days, but a mechanic’s jumpsuit preserves your clothes, your dignity, and says “man at work, here.”
